Monovar means ‘a new mount’ which names reveals there was a settlement on the road between Tarraco and Cartago-Nova in Roman times. As one of the largest towns in the area, it has enjoyed a significant historical role becoming a Royal town in 1705 and undergoing significant demographic and economic growth.
